- Water enters and settles here and begins the filtration process, seeping to the bottom
- Water then passes through a layer of gravel.
- Water then passes through fine grained sand, cleaning it of contaniments.
- Gravity then pushes the clean water up and out.
BioSand Water Filters
Terramar is proud to be able to contribute to a program of acquiring and providing BioSand Water Filters for schools, homes, and other drinking water supplies in the communities surrounding the development. They are essentially water filters that provide safe drinking water from very contaminated wells by developing a “bio-layer” of e-coli-eating predator organisms within the filter that destroy the e-coli organisms themselves, thereby purifying the local water supply. We will provide 3 of these units for each lot sold.
Fidel Pavon stands next to a bio filter he built.
A very special thanks to David Gullette for bringing this and other green technologies to Nicaragua.
UPDATE:Nov. 25th, 2006.......We have recently installed the first combination bio water filter and eco stove in the caretakers home on the ranch. Below are some pictures. We plan for it to be the litmus test for the first of many such installations.
